Rheumatology

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine with interdisciplinary connections for interaction with other specialties engaged in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue – especially orthopedics and traumatology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and clinical immunology.

As a specialty, rheumatology is focused on rheumatic diseases, degenerative and inflammatory bone diseases, inflammatory joint diseases with an autoimmune or infectious agent, systemic autoimmune connective tissue diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis, vasculitis, Behcet’s and Sjogren’s syndromes), diseases caused by crystals, degenerative joint disorders, soft tissue diseases, hereditary connective tissue diseases, neurological and neurovascular syndromes, rheumatic manifestations in the course of other diseases and other rheumatic diseases and syndromes.
